My review of the Bull's Advantage Black Edition

I've always had a soft spot for dartboards that break away from the classic brown/yellow look, and this Black Edition ticks exactly that box. It's the black-dressed version of Bull's Advantage board, with gold numbering that immediately gives it a premium look on the wall. But beyond the looks, you'll find the same technical fundamentals as the rest of the Advantage range: high-density African sisal and an ultra-thin blade spider, two elements that do most of the heavy lifting on a board of this level.

What I particularly appreciate is that Bull's didn't sacrifice performance for style. This is clearly an intermediate choice: not an entry-level board, and not top-tier equipment either, but a very solid compromise for anyone who wants a serious board in a living room or games room where aesthetics matter. It's designed to standard playing specifications, with no mention of official federation certification on the manufacturer's spec sheet.

My test of the Bull's Advantage Black Edition on the oche

On the oche, the high-density sisal is noticeable right away: darts sink in cleanly, without that overly soft or overly hard feeling you sometimes get on lower-quality surfaces. The ultra-thin blade spider clearly does its job on bounce-outs: darts that clip a wire have a better chance of sliding through rather than ricocheting, which makes a real difference in bounce-out count over a session.

The black/gold contrast also plays an underrated role: scoring zone readability is excellent, even under dim lighting, which makes long sessions easier on the eyes.

Durability of the Bull's Advantage Black Edition

The high-density African sisal used here is known for its self-healing capacity: the fibers naturally close back up after each impact, which limits permanent holes and extends the board's usable lifespan. For regular but reasonable use (casual play, a few evenings a week), this board holds up well without wearing out prematurely.

That said, it's not built for intensive club or high-frequency competition use, for that, a federation-certified range designed to handle a higher volume of play is a better fit.

Setting up and mounting the dartboard

Like most traditional sisal boards, the Advantage Black Edition mounts simply on the wall using a suitable bracket (not always included depending on the retailer), at the regulation height of 1.73 m to the center of the bull's-eye. No specific installation requirements are noted compared to a standard sisal board: a stable, level mount is enough to get the full benefit of the playing surface and the blade spider.

Price and value for money

This board generally sells between €70 and €76 depending on the retailer (spotted at €72.95 at McDart, €71.80 at Devon, and £61.95 at Dartscorner UK, roughly €73 to €75), placing it clearly in the mid-range segment. For that budget, you get a board with a real aesthetic upgrade (finish rated 8/10, visual comfort 8/10) without compromising on the technical basics expected at this level.

The value for money is consistent with the overall score of 7.4/10: it's not the cheapest board on the market, but it justifies its positioning with genuine care given to design and construction.

Verdict: should you buy the Bull's Advantage Black Edition?

If you're looking for a mid-range board that stands out visually without sacrificing essential technical qualities (self-healing, bounce-out reduction), the Advantage Black Edition is a very good choice. It's particularly well suited to those playing at home or in a space where looks matter as much as performance.

However, if you're aiming for official competition play, keep in mind that no federation certification is mentioned on the manufacturer's spec sheet: in that case, look toward a board certified by your federation before investing.
