Complete Dartboard Buying Guide
Choosing the right dartboard is essential to progress and enjoy. Discover our guide to compare traditional and electronic dartboards.
Traditional or Electronic Dartboard?
Traditional sisal dartboards suit purists and competitors, offering authentic game experience with steel tip darts. Electronic dartboards appeal to families and beginners with their automatic scoring and multiple game modes. The choice depends on your level, budget and objectives.
Budget and Quality
For a quality traditional dartboard, expect between 40€ and 100€. Electronic dartboards range from 80€ (entry-level) to over 500€ (connected professional models). Investing in a recognized brand dartboard guarantees durability and performance.
Installation and Space
Install your dartboard at 1.73m from the ground (bull center). The throw line is at 2.37m for steel tip and 2.44m for soft tip. Plan a 3m setback space and protect the surrounding wall with a surround.

Sign Up FreeHow We Review Dartboards
Every dartboard we review goes through a reproducible testing protocol. Because traditional and electronic dartboards work very differently, we use a dedicated set of criteria for each type and rate every criterion on a scale from 1 to 10.
Traditional Dartboard Criteria
Sisal dartboards are tested with steel tip darts over extended sessions. We focus on the physical playing surface and build quality.
Durability
Sisal and wiring resistance over time after thousands of impacts. A board that holds up after sustained play scores higher.
Bounce-out
Frequency of dart bounce-outs. Thin wiring and staple-free construction reduce bounce-outs and score better.
Perceived quality
Sisal density, surface evenness and print quality. How the board feels and looks when new and after extended use.
Finish
Wiring regularity, ring finish and overall assembly quality. Consistent craftsmanship earns a higher score.
Visual comfort
Segment readability and colour contrast. A well-designed board reduces eye strain during long sessions.
Electronic Dartboard Criteria
Electronic dartboards are tested with soft tip darts, focusing on scoring reliability, game modes and connected features rather than the sisal surface.
Durability
Resistance of the segments and housing to repeated soft tip impacts. Segment hole density and plastic quality drive long-term reliability.
Perceived quality
Overall build, display quality and finish. How solid and well-made the board feels in everyday use.
Games
Number and variety of built-in game modes. More diverse options extend replay value for all skill levels.
Connectivity
App integration and online play support (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi). Connected features greatly enhance the experience.
Ease of use
Interface clarity and automatic scoring accuracy. A seamless setup lets you focus on the game, not the board.
Each criterion is scored from 1 to 10 and combined into an overall score for that board type. A high score on a premium model is not guaranteed — we rate relative to the price range, so a mid-range board can outscore a top-tier one if it delivers better value for money.

Frequently Asked Questions
Among our 49 dartboards (37 traditional, 12 electronic), the highest-rated traditional dartboards are the Winmau Blade 6 Triple Core and Unicorn Eclipse Pro 2. For electronic: Dartslive Home or Granboard 3s. Filter by type, brand and specs to find your match.
The dartboard center (bull) must be at 1.73m (5ft 8in) from the floor. The throwing line (oche) is at 2.37m for steel tip and 2.44m for soft tip. Ensure you have at least 3 meters of clear space behind the throwing line. Use a proper mounting bracket for safety.
Use a dartboard surround (foam ring that fits around the board, €10-20) to catch missed darts. For extra protection, mount a backboard panel. LED lighting kits improve visibility and reduce shadows on the board. Never mount a dartboard on a thin or hollow wall without reinforcement.
