My review of the Target Pro Tour

The Pro Tour is the board that lets you step into Target's razor spider world without heading straight for the top of the catalogue. African sisal with self-healing fibres, an ultra-thin staple-free steel wire, and a rotating scoring ring: on paper, it ticks the technical boxes you'd expect from a solid, good-level board.

With an overall rating of 7.4/10, it's a solid, honest board, with no notable weakness but no excess either. It sits just below the Target Aspar, which benefits from Smart Edge technology and higher overall scores. The Pro Tour is the more accessible choice within Target's razor range.

My test of the Target Pro Tour on the oche

This is where the Pro Tour clearly shines. The razor spider with its ultra-thin staple-free wire genuinely reduces the bounce-out surface: you feel the difference from the first few throws, with noticeably fewer darts landing back on the floor for nothing. The 9/10 bounce-out score is well earned.

The rotating scoring ring rounds things off nicely: by turning at each game or at regular intervals, it spreads out wear across the whole circumference instead of concentrating impacts on the same zones (triple 20 and 19 leading the way). The result is a board that keeps a consistent playing surface for longer than average.

Durability of the Target Pro Tour

African sisal is known for its self-healing capacity: the fibres tighten back up after each impact, limiting the "gaping holes" effect seen on lower-quality sisal after a few months of intensive use. Combined with the rotating ring that avoids premature localised wear, you end up with a board that ages well.

The 7/10 durability score stays consistent with a mid-range positioning though: it's solid and reliable, but it doesn't quite reach the extreme longevity of premium models fitted with even denser sisal or additional surface treatments.

Setup and mounting the board

At the standard 17.8-inch format, the Pro Tour mounts like any classic steel-tip board, with no particular requirements for the mount or playing space. The rotating ring doesn't complicate anything: handling stays simple and quick, a real plus for routine maintenance without having to dismantle the whole board.

It's tournament-approved, so it works just as well for home use as for equipping a club or training under official conditions.

Price and value for money

At an estimated price of around €45-55 (to be adjusted depending on retailers), the Pro Tour sits in a bracket that's consistent with what it offers: a genuine ultra-thin razor spider, self-healing sisal, and a rotating ring, technologies that were still reserved for pricier ranges a few years ago.

Compared to the Target Aspar, the price gap is justified by Smart Edge technology and higher overall scores across almost every criterion. But for a tighter budget, the Pro Tour delivers a good share of the feel of a top-end razor board.

Verdict: should you buy the Target Pro Tour?

Yes, if you're looking for a serious razor board without going for the top of Target's range. Bounce-out reduction is excellent, durability and finish are solidly average, and the rotating ring is a real plus for longevity. It's an honest board that doesn't try to be more than it is: solid mid-range, with no major technical compromise.

If your budget allows it and you want the best Target has to offer, go for the Aspar and its Smart Edge technology. But for excellent performance-to-price ratio among razor boards, the Pro Tour remains a relevant choice.
