My take on the Unicorn Eclipse Pro 2

The Eclipse Pro 2 is the evolved version of the famous Eclipse Pro, and you can tell as soon as you look at the spider: Unicorn has fitted its "Spider 2 Wiring System" with radial wires and a completely staple-free construction. On paper, this is a logical evolution rather than a revolution, but that's exactly what makes it a safe bet in Unicorn's mid-range lineup, used on the PDC circuit. The staple-free design removes the fixing points that usually generate the most bounce-outs, a real plus for a board built for intensive use.

What I particularly appreciate is the ultra-thin bullseye wire ("Super Thin Bullseye Wire"). On the centre of the board, the most heavily used area, a thinner wire clears the sisal surface and reduces point deflection off the wire, where a classic stapled bullseye tends to throw back more.

For a club or regular home use, the lifespan is more than satisfactory; for intensive use such as an academy or a professional practice room, expect more frequent replacement than with top-tier boards.

There's nothing unusual here: the Eclipse Pro 2 follows the standard sisal-board format and mounts like any tournament board, on a standard wall bracket or cabinet. The diameter matches competition standards, so there's no surprise regarding bullseye height or throwing distance.

The staple-free design also slightly simplifies visual upkeep over time: with no visible staples, there are no metal points to watch for potential damage from dart points.

Price and value for money

The Eclipse Pro 2 sits around £45 at retailers (roughly €52), a few euros more than the standard Eclipse Pro. For that extra cost, you get the Spider 2 system with radial wires and the ultra-thin bullseye wire, which justifies the gap if bounce-out resistance matters to you.

Overall value for money is good: it stays within Unicorn's mid-range lineup, but with a genuine technical improvement over the previous model, without jumping into a higher price bracket (the Eclipse Ultra 2.0 sits notably higher).

Verdict: should you buy the Unicorn Eclipse Pro 2?

Yes, if you're after a reliable club board, used on the PDC circuit, with a good balance between bounce-out resistance and durability. It's aimed at regular players and clubs who want a board that lasts without paying premium-board prices.

If you already own an Eclipse Pro in good condition, upgrading to the Pro 2 isn't urgent. But for a first purchase or a replacement, the Spider 2 system and the ultra-thin bullseye wire clearly tip the scale in favour of the Pro 2 for a few extra euros.
